Chlorinators and Feeders
In-line and off-line tablet chlorinators compared on capacity and the pool sizes they're rated for.
An automatic chlorinator dissolves trichlor tablets at a steady rate set by a dial, so chlorine stays even between tests. Install it after the filter and any heater, so concentrated chlorine doesn't pass through equipment it can corrode.
Floating dispensers are cheaper but less even, and can sit in one spot. Tablets add stabilizer (CYA), so test it through the season.
Start with your situation
Plumb it into the return
In-line chlorinators fit directly in the return pipe.

Off-line chlorinators connect beside the plumbing.
Before you buy
- After the heater. Always install a chlorinator after the heater.
